In a study conducted by the Acoustic Research Group, Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, NZ, it was found that concrete tiles and metal tiles had a similar Sound Transmission Class (STC).  The same study found that the sarking, roof cavity build up, and ceiling materials played a significant role in dampening noise transmission through the roof, compared with relying solely on the roofing material.
