In a study conducted by the Acoustic Research Group, Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, NZ, it was found that concrete tiles and metal tiles had a similar Sound Transmission Class (STC).  The same study found that the sarking, roof cavity build up, and ceiling materials played a significant role in dampening noise transmission through the roof, compared with relying solely on the roofing material.

While corrugated iron or longrun roofs can be costly to replace, metal tile roofs are very easy to repair if a tile is damaged.  A roofer can remove a singular damaged tile and replace it with a new tile, minimising replacement costs.
